Cake

Last night after we came back from walking five miles to, around, and from Fresh Pond, I asked Colin what he wanted for dinner. He's leaving for field work in the Caribbean on Thursday, and we have dinner plans Monday and Wednesday, so this would be one of his last home-cooked meals for a while.

Colin looked at me thoughtfully.

"Cake," he said.

"Cake?" I had been expecting something like homemade pizza or a big leafy salad of the variety that he won't get while camping on a barren island in the middle of the ocean. I guess, though, he also won't get cake.

Well, I'm not one to turn down dessert so we whipped up a chocolate cake, and Colin's dream came true. (We did also make pizza.)

Oh, and if you're wondering: I'm not accompanying Colin on this globetrotting adventure. He's headed to a rat-infested island that has only a single tree and no fresh water to study three endemic lizard species that are currently being terrorized by the rats. This is one trip I'd rather miss. I'll be following along with the rest of you on his blog.
