Fairy Doors

As I mentioned in my To Do For Fun list, Ann Arbor is inhabited by a fine crew of fairies. Their world is tiny (of course), but just as vibrant as the human-sized city in which they live. Although to my knowledge no one has ever seen the fairies, you can definitely see their houses.

Since you aren't here to see for yourselves, I'm providing photographic evidence of this charming parallel world.

This fairy abode is inside Sweetwater's Coffee shop. I bet they never go hungry.

It's appropriate for visitors to leave trinkets for the fairies, and as you can see here, a child has left a hand-drawn portrait of the inhabitant.

You can peer inside this glass door for a glimpse of fairy life.

This fancy door is outside The Ark, a local performance venue.

Apparently fairies like shows, too, because they have their own small ticket window.

If you're worried about why the doors are so high above ground without stairs, it's obviously because fairies can fly.

Although most of the fairy doors were designed by a local artist, the fairy epidemic spread, and this is an "unofficial" door. (Ann Arbor welcomes all fairies, whether official or not.)

This is my favorite. This fairy built his/her home in the children's section of the District Library.

Quite appropriately, they chose the fairy tales shelf.

The notice reads: "Please do not touch. These books are out of circulation. Besides there may be someone living in them."
