The theme of this blog since moving to Massachusetts seems to be, "Weather in Boston is confused." It was cold in the summer, then we skipped fall and it snowed an inch and a half before Halloween, and now the trees are just starting to turn.
The Halloween snowstorm was the weirdest. I distinctly remember going trick-or-treating as a kid in costumes consisting of leotard and fairy skirt and not freezing to death, but this year was different. Even though I had planned my costume (sweat pants, long sleeve t-shirt over long underwear, snowboots, and a hat) for the Massachusetts weather, I didn't expect to actually need the snowboots! They were just the only round-toed, brown shoes I had!
What was my costume anyway? I dressed up as
Toad, and my friends were the other Mario Kart characters. It was so much fun! All of our costumes are homemade (with some help from Goodwill shopping), and you should be especially impressed by Yifan's hand-sewn Yoshi-suit and the cartoon masks designed by Hallie. With such awesome costumes, we couldn't help but show them off. Over the course of the night, we went to a spooky organ concert and two friends' parties. The snowstorm dampened our costumes, but not our spirits :) The photos below are courtesy of Yifan:

Due to the raging snowstorm outside, we had to take group pictures in the T stop. Loads of passengers found this amusing, and several asked if they, too, could snap our photo. Ahhhh, to be a celebrity!

Team Red: Donkey Kong, Wario, and Bowser in battle mode.

Team Blue: Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi. Aren't we cute??

Our posterboard costumes did not hold up in the snow. At the end of the night, we dumped the sad remnants on the floor and ordered a pizza to feel better.
And just so you understand the extent of the unseasonable weather, here are a few photos from my phone:

All in all, this was one Halloween I will never forget. (And luckily for the small kids who actually trick-or-treat, the snow came on Saturday, not the official Halloween Monday.) Good friends more than made up for bad weather! That said, Mother Nature, please hold off on the snowstorms next year, okay?
