Traveling

First, this is me (sideways again, darn internet cafe--I guess this is what I get for paying less than a dollar for 30 minutes) juggling dried up, salty algae balls at Ntwetwe Pan. What a landscape! Completely and utterly empty as far as the eye can see, and farther. Except for the mirages.

My next adventure starts today at 4:30 when I leave for D'Kar, home to the San people and the Kuru Development Project. Before we get into our ISPs, Candice and I are taking the weekend to explore. We'll be camping in Ghanzi, which is a 3 hour bus ride from Maun, and then going into D'Kar on Saturday. There's a great San art gallery supposedly and who knows what else?! We'll take a bus back to Maun on Sunday sometime and then split up for ISP.

Speaking of which, I'm still kind of in limbo about my project. I'm trying to contact several organizations working with alternative energy projects in Botswana but am encountering a lot of difficulties. As I wait to see if they get back to me, I'll be camping in Maun doing independent research and possibly interviewing people about their energy conservation habits. Maun and most villages use a pre-paid energy system where you buy tokens for a certain value of power. Gabs and Francistown use a post-paid system where you get a bill each month, just like in the US. So I may travel to different areas investigating which is most effective.

PEACE! Claire, wonderful! delightful! WOW! I was so surprised when Hilary told me you were in Botswana! I stayed over a couple of times in Francistown. I lived in Livingstone Zambia for 4 years. I hope you are learning some of the local dances!!
But you are surely worth 15 cows!!!
Good health, JOY and PEACE,
